Bonarda Piemontese is a native black grape variety from Piedmont, cultivated in Asti and Alessandria provinces, often confused with Croatina. Grown on clay and limestone soils, it produces refreshing, slightly sparkling wines.<\/p>\n

Characteristics<\/h2>\n

The wine has a vibrant ruby-red color with fine bubbles and persistent foam. Aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, dried rose, and a hint of bitter almond emerge on the nose. On the palate, it is fresh and fruity with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a slightly bitter finish.<\/p>\n

Pairings<\/h2>\n

Perfect with Piedmontese dishes like agnolotti in roast sauce, tajarin with butter and sage, and cured meats like Salame Piemonte DOP. Also pairs well with fresh cheeses like Robiola di Roccaverano.<\/p>\n

Curiosities<\/h2>\n

Despite its name, it is unrelated to Bonarda from Oltrep\u00f2 Pavese (which is Croatina). Its history dates to the 19th century when it was blended with Nebbiolo to soften tannins. Today, it stars in wines like Piemonte Bonarda DOC, often naturally sparkling.<\/p>\n
