Il Trave Winery
Il Trave Winery born in Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino, from the dream of three passionate young individuals who have a deep love for the land, natural soil cultivation, and the goal of revitalizing abandoned vineyards. They aim to bring these vineyards back to their former glory, just like in the old days, and put them back into operation by producing indigenous grape varieties with captivating elegance.
The importance of adopting an organic viticulture approach right from the start has brought significant organizational benefits. They have approached this endeavor with a fresh perspective, aiming to create excellent products while simultaneously valorizing the territory, following the example of their grandparents—generations of farmers whose lifelong mission was to pass down their values to future generations.
The fundamental idea is to offer products that reflect ancient flavors, showcasing the craftsmanship of their production. For these young enthusiasts, it’s essential to reintroduce and rekindle appreciation for fragrances that were gradually disappearing, often replaced by mass-produced products lacking soul or character, with tastes and colors dictated by the market rather than the land.
It’s from these needs that they decided to produce an honest, natural wine using indigenous grape varieties, without the addition of any components that would compromise its natural essence. The ancient vineyards of Aglianico and Coda di Volpe are nestled on the gentle slopes of Paternopoli, which had been nearly abandoned for their low productivity until a few years ago. This is the great challenge of Il Trave: to restore these nearly century-old plants to their former splendor and prove that they still had much to offer.
