A rare red grape from the hills of Piedmont, Montericco produces wines with intense ruby hues and aromas of cherry liqueur, licorice, and tobacco. On the palate, the tannins are silky, with a slightly bitter finish. Perfect with braised beef in Barolo or tajarin pasta with truffle. Cultivated on sandy soils, it resists drought well. Fun fact: The name means “rich mountain,” referencing the fertile slopes where it was historically planted. Some century-old vines produce grapes for meditation wines aged in oak barrels.
