Mourvèdre (or Monastrell in Spain) is a black grape variety cultivated across the Mediterranean.
Characteristics
The wine has a deep purple-red color. On the nose, it features aromas of blackberry, licorice, black pepper, and a gamey note. On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with robust tannins and a spicy finish.
Pairings
Sublime with game stews, braised meats, and spicy dishes like chorizo cooked in wine.
Curiosities
Essential for Bandol wines in Provence and the bold reds of Spain’s DO Jumilla.
