Timorasso is a robust white grape from Piedmont’s Tortona hills, revived by Walter Massa. It thrives in calcareous clay soils, yielding age-worthy, mineral-driven wines.
Characteristics
The wine has a golden-yellow color. Complex aromas of apricot, beeswax, and petrol evolve into honey and almond with age. On the palate, it is full-bodied with high acidity and a saline, almost tannic finish.
Pairings
Ideal with tajarin al tartufo (truffle pasta), roasted guinea fowl, and aged Castelmagno cheese.
Curiosities
Nearly extinct in the 1980s, it’s now the star of Colli Tortonesi Timorasso DOC. Requires 3–5 years to reveal its complexity.
