Poggio Cagnano Winery
Poggio Cagnano is an independent winery located in the heart of Tuscany, passionately and dedicatedly run by winemakers Alessandro (42) and Eleonora (28), with essential support from Nello and Achille. The winery stands out for its commitment to organic production and the promotion of local grape varieties.
The estate spans 4 hectares of organic vineyards, situated at 450 meters above sea level in a prime location between Monte Amiata and the Tyrrhenian Sea, just 20 km from both. The vines, aged between 10 and 20 years, are cultivated with native Tuscan and Mediterranean varieties, including Vermentino, Ansonica, Sangiovese, Alicante, and Ciliegiolo.
The vineyard is characterized by *Macigno Toscano*, a sandy soil rich in sandstone and *galestro*, with a composition of 75% sand, 20% lime, and a small percentage of clay (3-5%). This soil contributes to the production of fresh, savory wines with a refined structure.
In the cellar, Poggio Cagnano follows a natural winemaking approach, with spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentations and minimal intervention. Sulfite levels are kept extremely low, with a total of less than 30 mg/L, in line with the winery’s philosophy focused on sustainability and quality.
