Sergio Drago Winery
Sergio Drago winery born in Alcamo, at the center of the sunny Gulf of Castellammare in the northwest part of Sicily. Sergio Drago, a small artisanal wine producer, founded the winery. After studying oenology and gaining experience through consultations and work at other well-established wineries in the region, he decided to fully dedicate himself to his own production. He embarked on this journey alongside his friend and fellow producer, Alessandro Viola, with whom he shares the winery.
Sergio Drago manages a small vineyard where the native white grape variety, the pride of northern Sicily, Catarratto, thrives. These vines, around 15 years old, cover just over 2 hectares and are situated at an elevation of 300-350 meters above sea level in the extensive municipality of Monreale. As for the red grapes, including Syrah and Nero d’Avola, they are sourced through a very close collaboration with a small, dedicated local farmer, the result of joint efforts on a plot of land.
In line with the production philosophy of many colleagues and friends in the area, utmost attention is paid in the vineyard to the respect of the plants and their natural balance. No chemical products, herbicides, or pesticides are used on the plants, and all vineyard management practices are carried out manually. In the winery, the production of original and unadulterated wines takes place without the use of oenological additives. Stainless steel containers are used for vinification, and spontaneous fermentations occur inside them, thanks to the natural presence of indigenous yeasts in the environment and on the grapes.
Before bottling, the wine undergoes no clarifications, filtrations, or additions of sulfur dioxide. Sergio’s dedication and care in both the vineyard and the winery enable him to work with a product of excellent quality. The result is delicate, fine wines characterized by salinity and a great concentration of fruit flavors, offering a pure interpretation of northwestern Sicily.
