Coda di Pecora (“sheep’s tail”) is a rare Sicilian white grape named for its elongated clusters. Cultivated near Trapani, it thrives in sandy, coastal soils.
Characteristics
The wine has a pale straw-yellow color. Fragrant notes of citrus (bergamot, lime), white peach, and sea breeze dominate. On the palate, it is crisp and saline with a green almond finish.
Pairings
Pairs with grilled swordfish, pasta con le sarde (sardines), and caponata.
Curiosities
Nearly extinct until rediscovered in the 2000s. Used in Sicilia DOC blends, it’s gaining attention for single-varietal wines.
