Müller Thurgau is a white grape created in 1882 in Switzerland by Dr. Hermann Müller through crossing Riesling and Madeleine Royale. In Italy, it is cultivated in Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto, and Friuli, on well-drained hillside soils and in cool summer regions.
Characteristics
The wine displays a pale straw-yellow color with greenish reflections. Aromas of acacia, jasmine, white peach, Golden apple, lime, and herbal notes dominate. On the palate, it is light-bodied with moderate acidity and a fresh, aromatic finish, sometimes accented by honey or almond.
Pairings
Perfect with delicate dishes like asparagus risotto, trout with butter and sage, seafood salads, or sushi.
Curiosities
Despite being Germany’s second most cultivated grape, it remains niche in Italy—often used in blends but occasionally bottled as a single-varietal to showcase its subtle elegance.
