Sagrantino di Montefalco represents the pinnacle of Sagrantino, produced exclusively in Umbria’s Montefalco zone. This wine, made purely or with a touch of Sangiovese, offers a bouquet of macerated blackberries, Tuscan tobacco, and graphite, supported by tannins softened through 37 months of mandatory aging. Vines trained as bush vines benefit from autumn mists that preserve acidity. Once a festive symbol of abundance, it now pairs with Barolo-braised meats, black truffle, or dark chocolate. Fun fact: Only 5 producers kept Sagrantino alive in the 1970s; today, over 60 thrive post-1992 DOCG recognition.
