Scirto Winery
Vini Scirto, a small and young Sicilian company that has learned the love and desire for this work from past generations. We are in Passopisciaro, a hamlet of Castiglione di Sicilia on the slopes of Etna, on the northern side, the company’s vineyards are located precisely in the Feudo di Mezzo district and the Porcaria district. The vineyards, planted at the beginning of the 20th century, have a mixed type of cultivation, partly sapling and partly espalier. The most present variety is Nerello Mascalese, an indigenous vine from the slopes of Etna whose origins date back to very ancient periods until they were lost in the mists of time. Other varieties present are: Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante, Grecanico and Minnella. The grapes harvested in the first half of October are made unique precisely by the presence of the lava soil, the noble presence of the sun and the strong temperature range between day and night. Scirto is pure craftsmanship, from the manual work in the vineyard to the harvesting of the grapes up to the small but functional cellar that crowns the sacrifices of Valeria and Giuseppe, where they can finally try their hand at even small experiments.
