Fiano is an ancient white grape variety from Campania, renowned for Fiano di Avellino DOCG. It thrives in volcanic and tuffaceous soils, producing aromatic, age-worthy wines.
Characteristics
The wine has a golden-yellow hue with green reflections. The nose offers honeyed notes of pear, hazelnut, and toasted bread, with a flinty mineral undertone. On the palate, it is rich and textured, balanced by vibrant acidity and a long finish of bitter almond.
Pairings
Perfect with seafood risotto, grilled octopus, and creamy cheeses like Burrata di Andria.
Curiosities
Fiano was prized by the Romans as “Vitis Apiana” (bee vine) due to its sweetness attracting bees. Nearly extinct post-WWII, it was revived in the 1970s.
