La Svolta is a Barbera d’Asti Superiore coming from an old-vine vineyard in Località Cardona, in the heart of Monferrato. Grown on clay-gypsum soil, 50% of the aging takes place in amphora, while the remaining part continues in steel and large wooden barrels. A total aging of 2 years before bottling. No microfiltration, no fining, indigenous yeasts, and minimal added sulfites.

Serving temperature 16° – 18° C
Production Area Località Cardona, Monferrato (AL), Piedmont
Soil Clay-gypsum
Vinification 3-week maceration.
Aging 50% in terracotta jars, 50% in steel and large wood. Total of 2 years.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright and pale ruby red color, with a garnet rim that emphasizes its evolution and elegance.
  • Nose: The olfactory profile is complex and typical. Hints of ripe red fruit (black cherry, raspberries), sweet spices, cocoa, and a light woody echo emerge. The terracotta component adds a delicate mineral and earthy note, without the vanilla scents typical of small wood barrels. A layered and enveloping bouquet.
  • Palate: The entry is vigorous and powerful, with a remarkable body and an excellent mineral texture. The structure is full, supported by a vibrant freshness that balances the power. The tannins are silky and velvety, also thanks to the work of the amphora. The finish is harmonious, persistent, and of great elegance, with delicate notes of raspberry tart and sweet spices.

Recommended Pairings

Perfect with substantial cured meat platters, red meat main courses in moderately elaborate preparations, and structured first courses (lasagna, pasta with game ragù). Also excellent with roasts, braised meats, and aged cheeses. A wine that deserves a slow and meditative tasting to capture all its nuances.

Why choose it

Because it is Barbera d’Asti in its deepest and most experimental form. Because it combines the power and body typical of the grape variety with a roundness and complexity provided by terracotta aging. It is for those seeking a wine that tells a story of evolution and courage, daring to change paths by returning to ancient techniques to deliver new emotions.
